WHY THE P.E.A.C.E PROCESS IS NEEDED
What is the purpose of youth sports? Sports can provide exercise for the body and character building for participants. It is all too easy to find unbelievable stories concerning conflict in youth sports. This PEACE Process book includes examples of such stories and offers insight on the lessons we can learn from them. The increasing presence of conflict in youth sports is why the PEACE Process is needed.
The Plan for Implementing the P.E.A.C.E Process
This section in the Taking the Crazy out of Youth Sports: The P.E.A.C.E.Process defines the specific roles each PT group will play in our PEACE Process Plan. Establishing a clear understanding of our roles helps bring about a more effective implementation of the process.

Identifying Hot-Buttons
The Taking the Crazy out of Youth Sports: The P.E.A.C.E.Process book will examine the top “hot button ” issues for parents in youth sports and present a plan to understand these issues better. Our goal is to work together in an honorable and peaceful manner concerning them.
Top hot button issues examined include:
• Playing time
• Expectations for college scholarships (including coaches’ effects
on kids’ statistics)
• Coaches who have a child on the team
• Referees
• Communication (and miscommunication)
• When parents think coaches are dishonest
• Media and social media as positive and negative tools
Why Kids Play Sports and Why They Quit
This section presents research seeking to explain what motivates young people to participate in youth sports and why so many of them choose to quit. It offers examples of the youth sports experience from the adults’ and the children’s point of view. And it provides examples of innovative ways schools have improved and increased student participation in sports programs.
Can We Talk? P.E.A.C.E Process Communication Methods
This section presents research on communication that can help us improve the way we relate to one another in a team environment. It focuses on the importance of understanding transparency and evaluates the natural consequences of using our personal perceptions to evaluate others. And it provides some tips on improving communication between all PT groups. Improved communication is a game changer!
